Maple Leaf International School

Academic Programme Overview

Maple Leaf International School is first and foremost an academic community which places a high emphasis on character development through program. The school was founded to meet the needs of parents and guardians who wish to have the benefits of a Canadian system of educational beliefs, practices and materials for their children.

Registration with the Ministry of Education, Ontario, Canada

The program begins with junior kindergarten and we offer all grades until graduation after grade twelve. The program is continuous and seamless; it is the same as that which is in place in schools in the Province of Ontario. We are inspected annually for purposes of compliance by the Ministry of Education for the Province of Ontario using the same criteria applied to any private school in Ontario.

Our program is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills they will need to enter the professions, business or the world of work as productive citizens in the 21st century. It prepares them for studies at tertiary institutions in whatever field they may choose.

Standards

We promote high standards of achievement, providing all students with the support they need in small class and group settings. Our teachers are fully qualified to meet the challenges involved in providing students with the learning opportunities they need. Each semester, an impressive number of pupils achieve Honours status; many graduate as Ontario Scholars.

Evaluation and Support

An important component of a high quality curriculum is student achievement of measurable results. Our evaluation policy involves frequent formative evaluation which allows parents and students to consistently monitor progress. Assistance and support are offered to support student success on an on-going as appropriate basis.

Graduation

Graduation requirements include achieving 30 secondary school credits, successfully completing a literacy test and fulfilling a community service requirement. The Maple Leaf program meets all these challenges admirably.

Guidance and Counselling

An important program difference found in the secondary school is the guidance and career education program. Students are able to learn about career opportunities as well as make informed decisions about the options offered in high school. Students are assisted to set appropriate goals and select a program which will help them attain the objectives to which they aspire.  Students are also personally guided through the daunting process of applying to university/college programs. Our graduates are accepted at prestigious institutions of higher learning in Canada, the United States and Great Britain. Students are also afforded the opportunity to learn about the world of work through the Co-operative Education program.

Ethics and Leadership

We believe in developing leadership abilities among students and we have implemented a school wide leadership program. Our character education development program helps students develop an ethical dimension which is critical to the creation of leaders in contemporary society.

We have a very busy and exciting school program which has been created and implemented to ensure the success of your son or daughter now and in the future.
